Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park

Image
Bruneau Dunes State Park Twenty-four minutes south of Mountain Home is a treat the whole family can enjoy. Bruneau Dunes State Park offers a variety of outdoor recreation to include hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, star gazing, and of course SAND! During the summer months the park is packed with fun. There are two main campgrounds with amenities and an equestrian camping ground for horse lovers. During the day, gather up the gang and head to the dunes. The children will make climbing the dunes look easy, but if you’re over the age of thirty your thighs and calves will be burning (I don’t care how fit you think you are)! If you would like to cool down from the heat, head to the visitor center to grab an ice cream and check out the museum and gift shop.  When nighttime rolls around get ready for more adventure. The observatory is open between the months of March though October where you can relax while listening to an observatory presentation and star

A short drive down Teapot road will lead to an outcrop of rhyolite cliffs which was a dominant marker along the Oregon Trail. The weather was gorgeous for a late October hike. Although the trail was steep and rocky, it was easy enough for the entire family. We followed the fence line until we reached the top of the Teapot Dome. At this point the landscapes opened up a bit and we chose to keep ascending, we let the kids lead as there is not a formed trail. Not necessarily the easiest route, but they had fun bouldering, running through the sagebrush and noting the colorful lichen covered rocks. From the top you can lookout to
