Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park

Bruneau Dunes State Park

Twenty-four minutes south of Mountain Home is a treat the whole family can enjoy. Bruneau Dunes State Park offers a variety of outdoor recreation to include hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, star gazing, and of course SAND!

During the summer months the park is packed with fun. There are two main campgrounds with amenities and an equestrian camping ground for horse lovers. During the day, gather up the gang and head to the dunes. The children will make climbing the dunes look easy, but if you’re over the age of thirty your thighs and calves will be burning (I don’t care how fit you think you are)! If you would like to cool down from the heat, head to the visitor center to grab an ice cream and check out the museum and gift shop.

When nighttime rolls around get ready for more adventure. The observatory is open between the months of March though October where you can relax while listening to an observatory presentation and star gazing. After you’ve enjoyed your time looking at the stars, grab a UV flashlight and take a walk around the park trails to discover the nocturnal wildlife by scorpion hunting. In past experience it is best to scorpion hunt after the daytime weather has reach 90 degrees for a solid week.

In the winter months the park is less populated but still offers amazing adventures. The dunes are an epic place to sled after a good snow. It brings a whole new meaning to downhill sledding.

With so many options in one location, Bruneau Dunes State Park is the perfect pick for a day trip or a tpo take week long stay in the campgrounds. Whatever the case may be, you’ll always take a piece of the park home with you (maybe a pocketful)!
